Are site surveys available?

Site surveys are available upon request to help us visually estimate your storage needs and check important logistics such as access, lifts, loading areas, and long push requirements.

Yes β€” site surveys are available upon request.

For customers with larger collections, bulky items, or properties with more complex access conditions, a site survey can be a helpful way for our team to better understand the job before collection day.

A site survey allows us to provide a visual estimate of the amount of storage space you may need and to check for any logistical requirements that could affect the move or pickup process.

What is a site survey?

A site survey is a pre-arranged visit where our team assesses your items and the collection environment in person.

The purpose is not to individually measure every item or produce a guaranteed final volume calculation. Instead, it allows us to make a more informed visual estimate and identify any factors that may affect manpower, vehicle access, timing, or handling requirements.

This can be especially useful if:

  • You have a large number of items

  • You are storing furniture, appliances, or other bulky pieces

  • Your property has access constraints

  • You want greater clarity before confirming your booking

  • You expect special handling or operational requirements

What do we check during a site survey?

During a site survey, we typically look at both the items to be stored and the site access conditions.

1. Visual estimate of storage needs

Our team will assess the overall quantity and type of items to give a visual estimate of the storage space likely required.

This estimate is more informed than a purely remote assessment, because we are able to see the items in person. However, it is still an estimate, not an exact measurement, since we do not usually measure each item individually during the survey.

The final space used may still vary depending on the actual items collected, how they are packed, and how they are configured for storage.

2. Access and logistics assessment

We will also check the collection environment for anything that could affect the scope of work, timing, manpower, or equipment needed. This may include:

  • Steps or stair access

  • Lift size or lift restrictions

  • Loading and unloading areas

  • Distance from the unit to the vehicle

  • Whether a long push is required

  • Narrow corridors or tight turns

  • Building management restrictions

  • Limited parking access

  • Timing constraints for move-in or collection

  • Special handling needs for oversized or fragile items

This helps us plan ahead and reduce surprises on collection day.

Why request a site survey?

A site survey can help make the process smoother, faster, and more predictable.

Benefits may include:

  • A more accurate visual estimate of storage requirements

  • Better planning for manpower and logistics

  • Early identification of access challenges

  • Reduced risk of delays or unexpected issues on collection day

  • Greater confidence when booking storage and pickup services

For customers with more complex requirements, a site survey can be the best way to ensure the move is properly scoped from the start.

Is the estimate guaranteed?

No. A site survey improves visibility, but it does not turn the estimate into an exact measurement exercise.

Unless every item is individually measured, the storage recommendation remains an estimate based on what is visible at the time of the survey.

Actual requirements can still change if:

  • Additional items are added later

  • Items are removed before collection

  • Packing changes the effective volume

  • The final collection differs from what was shown during the survey

We always aim to provide the most practical and reliable guidance possible, but estimates should still be understood as estimates.

When is a site survey recommended?

We generally recommend requesting a site survey if:

  • You are unsure how much storage space you need

  • You have furniture or non-standard items

  • Your home, office, or building has access constraints

  • You expect the collection to involve more than a simple lift-to-loading-bay route

  • You want our team to assess the job before booking

For straightforward collections, photos or a written item list may sometimes be sufficient. For more involved jobs, a site survey can provide added clarity and peace of mind.

How do I request a site survey?

If you would like a site survey, just contact our team and let us know.

When reaching out, it helps to include:

  • Your address

  • The type of property

  • A rough summary of the items

  • Any known access issues

  • Your preferred timing

Our team will review your requirements and advise on the next steps.

Need help deciding?

If you are unsure whether a site survey is necessary, feel free to ask us. We can review your situation and recommend the most suitable approach.

For larger, higher-value, or logistically complex collections, a site survey can be a smart first step to help ensure a smoother experience from the outset.
